Symptoms and Causes of Acoustic Neuroma

About 2,500 people in the U.S. are diagnosed each year with an acoustic neuroma, a benign brain tumor on a cranial nerve that leads from the brain to the inner ear. An MRI scan of the brain can diagnose the tumor, which can cause hearing loss, balance problems and ringing in the ears.

Many people wait to tell their doctors about the symptoms. Too often, seemingly minor hearing loss is trivialized and ignored. However, if it is in one ear in a person at midlife, that can be a sign of a tumor growing.

For many, the most difficult form of treatment can be the watch and wait method, in which a doctor monitors the growth of the tumor and waits to see if surgery is necessary. About 20 percent of patients with acoustic neuroma choose to watch and wait. A benefit of that method is that patients can avoid the complications associated with radiation and surgery.

Radiation is often the best option for older patients. The sooner an acoustic neuroma is diagnosed, the more options a patient has.

Anyone with an unexplained one sided hearing loss, especially later in life, should see their community ear, nose and throat physician. For those living in Arizona, local audiologist in Scottsdale and Phoenix can help with a diagnosis of possible healing issues.

People of all ages should educate themselves about options for maintaining a good quality of life through better hearing. Residents of Arizona have access to one of the countries most cutting edge chain of hearing centers. Phoenix hearing aids and Scottsdale hearing aids can be obtained at Purtone Hearing Centers in Arizona. With a total of eight locations around Arizona, your hearing needs can be accommodated no matter where you live in Arizona.

Swimwear Over The Ages

Introduction

Swimwear is the term used for garments designated for swimming and beach wear. It has gradually changed over the years from the bulky garments used to completely cover the body into the selection of brief pieces of fabric arranged to expose as much as possible of the body.

Finding the right sort of swimwear is not always that easy especially if you do not have a large budget. There is an enormous variety of body sizes and shapes for both men and women and correspondingly there are an enormous variety of outfits ranging from the very cheap to the very expensive.

Fashion Dictates

If it was just a case of having a bathing costume to wear when going swimming and replacing it when it had worn out, life would be relatively easy. But there is the matter of fashion. Every year the makers come up with a different style so that the previous year’s model suddenly looks old fashioned and we feel compelled to buy a new one. As purchasers we are confronted with one piece swimsuits, two piece swimwear, some with long tops, some with skimpy tops, high leg cut, high waist cut, different cup sizes, in a variety of fabrics, colours, patterns, two tone and so on. The choice is endless.

History of Swimwear

The earliest recorded bathing costume was in 350 BC in Greece which was a toga-like garment for bathing. During the 18th century people visited spa resorts for their health where they spent time in the spa waters. Naturally they needed something suitable to wear, other than their day clothes, when they were engaged in public bathing. Later the recreation of beach bathing demanded a specially made outfit to maintain decorum and decency, so the bathing suit was developed.

Initially the swimwear was rather like ordinary daywear, and the dresses worn by the women sometimes had lead weights sewn into the hems to prevent the skirts from floating up. As the expansion of the railways enabled the masses to spend time at the seaside a more practical type of outfit was required. By the early 1900′s the swimsuit consisted of bloomers with black stocking and shoes, and the top was like a jacket belted at the waist. Swimming was considered suitable for men, while women were assisted into the water for a short dip.

Over the century attitudes changed and swimming became an Olympic sport for both men and women. Gradually the swimming costume changed to adopt short capped sleeves and more ankle was exposed beneath the bloomers. As women became more active in the water the swimming costume needed to be less cumbersome so the neckline was lowered and the tops became sleeveless. Eventually the Princess cut was introduced which consisted of the trousers attached to a blouse in one piece.

In 1909 Annette Kellerman, the Australian swimmer, film star and author, defined the future of swimsuits by getting arrested for indecency when she wore what is thought to be the first one piece swimming costume, by 1910 “Annette Kellermans” became the new accepted ladies swimwear.

From then on the swimsuits became lighter and briefer. By the 1920′s the women wore figure hugging tank suits made from wool Jersey and by 1928 they had evolved into the swimsuit we would recognise today. In the 1930′s cotton was introduced for bathing suits sometimes with little overskirts to hide bulky thighs, but film stars wore fashionable figure hugging costumes with higher cut legs sealing the fate of the fashionable swimwear.

The corset manufacturers in the 1940′s saw that women with less than perfect figures needed swimsuits to hide or control the bulges, so seeing a gap in the market they produced costumes which had control panels for the tummy and bra cups and bones to give support to the bust. Using the methods applied in corset making they introduced the stretch factor to bathing costumes so that they were more flattering than ever before.

With the development of modern fabrics, Nylon and Lycra became the fabric of choice for swimwear because of their stretch properties. This meant that the costume could be pulled on without openings or fastenings and gave a firmer cleaner line to the figure. Women continued to wear all in one swimsuits until the 1950′s when the bikini became popular.

Leisure Swimming or Sunbathing

Although certain costumes are called swimwear, in fact some never get near the water. They are solely for sunbathing which usually means they are as small as possible, just barely covering the essential bits so that the skin gets maximum exposure to the sun and such a design would be classed as a bikini.

Two Piece or Bikinis

Over two thousand years ago early mosaics and pottery from Greece depict what in fact looks like an early version of a bikini. These garments were used by women performers and acrobats and were in two pieces to cover the breasts and the lower part of the body, much like the current style of Bandeau tops. Modern day runners and athletes wear something very similar when competing. Paula Radcliffe when running the Marathon last year, wore a garment almost identical to those worn thousands of years ago!!

The bikini resembles women’s underwear and has been described as a scanty two piece bathing suit. The lower part may be two small triangles attached together with a string tie at either side, or even a thong. The upper part may also be two small triangles attached together with a string tie but arranged in a slightly different order. Louis Reard patented the contemporary version of the bikini in 1946; his design was similar to the skimpy string 1970′s bikini and it shocked the world when it appeared on French beaches in 1947.

The very first bikini shown in the cinema was in the Bond film Dr No when Ursula Andress rises out of the sea in a white bikini. This created the iconic Bond girl and made her world famous. When being interviewed on television recently she revealed that the bikini had been constructed out of a bra covered with the fabric to give her the required lift of the bosom. This actual bikini sold at auction for £35,000 in 2001.

As the fashion for having an all over tan peaked in the 1980′s and 1990′s designs of bikinis reduced in size considerably.

Ultimately the top part of the bikini was abandoned altogether when topless sunbathing became the norm in some countries and the bottom was just a G-string or thong also called a Tanga. Oliver Saillard the fashion journalist states that the bikini is the most popular female beachwear in the world, and that the emancipation of swimwear is linked to the emancipation of women.

In the 1950′s there was a popular song entitled ‘In My little Itsy Bitsy Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ that indicated the acceptance of the new style of swimwear. I remember my cousin persuading me to try on a bikini and I felt very exposed but she said how fantastic I looked in it because I was so slim.

Although the bikini is now an acceptable garment whatever the size, the one piece swimsuit is still the best for serious swimmers. Some companies are well known for their skill at making swimwear and make all the garments for the Olympic team and other swimming competitions. Now swimwear is available in a wide range of bust sizes and the more expensive makes have control panels for the stomach combined with clever styling to create a good silhouette. Combined with a matching sarong, older ladies may feel more comfortable when walking around the beach area.

Helen Mirren was photographed on holiday in her substantial bikini last summer with the caption commenting on how good she looked for her age and that particular bikini was snapped up from the stores within days. Perhaps the buyers believed that they could look as good as Helen Mirren in a bikini if they had the same one.

Leg Line

Some two piece bathing suits are cut so that the waist is high and the corresponding leg line is also cut high. I believe the aim is to make the wearer look as though her legs are much longer than they are. However if you have less than the perfect shape for this style it can emphasise large hips so it’s not for all women.

Another fashion mode is the tankini where the bottoms look like little shorts and shows the lower curve of the bottom, which is fine if you are young with a nice pert bottom.

Tankinis are the most popular new style in swimwear clothes demonstrating that with just a tiny strip of bare midriff showing, less is more.

The classic bikini style is still as popular as ever though, with the cut of the leg line following the natural crease between the leg and the hip.

The most recent development in fabric is the ‘tan through’ swimwear. This allows the body to tan without exposing the body to the world. Some commentators on this style point to the effects of too much sun on the body and the occurrences of skin cancer of which the evidence indicates an alarming increase. However, the counter argument to that is if you are wearing a bikini anyway then the extra exposure to the sun through the top and bottom garments is hardly going to make much difference.

Conclusion

Swimwear is a term used these days to cover all types of beach wear and swimming gear. It is a bit of a misnomer in that many outfits never see the water and are not used for swimming. However there is a huge range of garments available for the customer of different styles, sizes and fabrics. The one commonality of course is that everyone wants to look good once they don these garments. The main key to that is to make sure your new swimwear is the right fit and cut, for your body size and shape.

The importance of being properly measured for your swimwear is often overlooked but it is as important as being properly measured for your bra or other underwear, particularly if you do indeed intend to actually swim in your new swimwear! By wearing the right size and style swimwear for your body, will ensure you are really comfortable in it on the beach, in the pool or wherever else you choose to wear it.

Choosing Wholesale Perfumes

What do you think of when you are thinking about getting the perfume that you want? Many people think of things like moonlit walks on the beach, flowers, fruits or even a particular beautiful day. If you want perfume but don’t care to pay exorbitant prices, consider buying your perfume online and in bulk! It doesn’t get cheaper than this.

While keeping in mind that the most expensive perfumes will not be available in wholesale quantities, there are still going to be some amazing scents to be had. For instance, there are plenty of wholesale perfumes that will mimic the name brand designer perfumes down to the last note, and though they are not the originals, they are nearly indistinguishable from them. If you like the idea of having perfume on hand, this is something that you need to consider.

If you really want to make your purchase of wholesale perfumes special, why not throw in a few expensive scents as well? If you order on the Internet, you will find that the scents that you can pick up are amazingly varied and all available at impressively low prices; you certainly can’t get this option when you go to the drug store, and chances are good that you can’t get them at any physical location that you can get to, either?

One place that wholesale perfume can be very handy is going to be around gift giving time. Whether you are shopping for a holiday or a birthday, having a ready supply of wholesale scents on hand can ensure that you are going to be able to get the oohs and aahs from your friends and family members; perfume is a terrific gifts!

When you are thinking about getting perfume but not paying an arm and a leg for it, why not look into discount shops? Discount shops will allow you to see what different perfumes you might have for sale and you will find that the variety is usually quite good. They make great gifts or you might choose to simply add them to your own collection.

When you are thinking about buying wholesale perfumes, you may want to call the perfume company yourself. Ask them for inexpensive versions of their name brands and also consider how they feel about selling it to you in wholesale quantities. Buying in bulk will get you a lot of perfume to hand out at special occasions.

Getting a large number of perfumes at once is usually not possible but if you are determined there are a number of different ways that you can get wholesale perfumes delivered straight to your door.

Should You Refinance Your Mortgage Now?

Many homeowners are considering taking advantage of today’s historically low interest rates by refinancing their mortgage. In many cases, they are able to save hundreds of dollars per month by refinancing. Whether mortgage refinancing makes sense for you can be easily determined by doing some simple math.

The first consideration is how much lower your new interest rate should be than your current rate. There is a common belief that if current rates are more than 1.5 to 2 percentage points lower than your current rate, then you should refinance. That’s a good starting point, but there is more to the story than just the raw interest rate.

Your real concern should be the total cost of the mortgage refinance both in the short term and the long term. The total cost includes not only the monthly mortgage payment (principal plus interest), but the closing costs, as well. Closing costs typically include such things as:

  • Appraisal fee
  •

  • Credit Report fee
  •

  • Processing fee
  •

  • Commitment fee
  •

  • Tax Service fee
  •

  • Flood Certification fee
  •

  • Discount points (if any)
  •

  • Title Insurance (based on mortgage amount)
  •

  • Recording/Notary fee
  •

  • Per diem Interest
  •

  • Real Estate Taxes
  •

  • Home Insurance (percentage of mortgage amount)
  •

Adding all these up can easily run into several thousand dollars, even without discount points. This is money that must be paid at the loan closing. In the case of a mortgage refinancing, lenders often advertise “no closing costs”, which is a bit misleading. The truth is that there ARE closing costs, but they are paid out of the proceeds of the loan rather than the pocket of the homeowner. This is possible when the homeowner borrows against the equity in their home as part of the refinancing.

As an example, let’s say that your home is worth $175,000. Your original mortgage was for $125,000 over 30 years at 7% interest. You still owe $100,000 on the original mortgage. The closing costs for your refinance are $3,000. If you simply refinance the $100,000 amount at a lower interest rate you will reduce your monthly payments, but you will have to pay the $3,000 closing costs out of your own pocket. If you choose the “no closing costs” option, your $3,000 closing costs will be paid by simply borrowing the additional money against the equity in your home (i.e. the value of your home less the amount owed). Your mortgage will now be for $103,000 instead of $100,000.

So, what about that widely held 2 percentage points belief we mentioned earlier? The monthly payment for a 30-year $125,000 mortgage at 7% interest is $831.63. For your new 30-year $100,000 loan at 5% interest, the monthly payment is $536.82, a savings of almost $300 per month. If the new mortgage is $103,000, the monthly payment is $552.93, still saving you over $275 per month. In this scenario, considering only the monthly savings, you would recoup your closing costs in as little as 10 months.

Sounds great, right? Well, there’s another factor you need to consider. If your original mortgage was $125,000, you’ve been paying on it for 152 months to get the principal balance down to $100,000. Therefore, you have 208 months left before the mortgage is paid off under the original terms. If you continue without refinancing, you’ll pay an additional $172,978 (208 months at $831.63 per month).

If you refinance your mortgage for the $100,000 you currently owe, you’ll pay on it for 360 months at $536.82 plus the $3,000 closing costs for a total of $196,255.

$172,978 <– payout without refinancing

-196,255 <– payout after refinancing

-$23,277 <– difference

In this case, by refinancing you will end up paying an additional $23,277 for the new loan over the original mortgage. This works out to about $775 per year, which may be acceptable to you in order to have the lower monthly payment now. You are the only one who can make that decision based on your personal financial situation. The important thing when refinancing your mortgage is to consider all the ramifications.

This is another of today’s money secrets that can help you get the most for your money in today’s lending market!

History of the Rockford Verdi Club in Illinois

The Giuseppe Verdi Club of Rockford, IL has quite a bit of interesting historical background. 27 Italian-born Rockford men met above a North lst Street grocery store to form a social club for the purpose of continuing their friendship and companionship. The 27 men named the newly formed organization the Giuseppe Verdi society. They chose the four rooms above the grocery store at 758 North 1st Street as their clubrooms.

The organization was officially founded on September 9, 1918 under the title of the “Giuseppe Verdi Society.” The club was established in order to provide two main objectives.

l. To provide and maintain a lodge for the pleasure and recreation of its members.

2. To increase the spirit of brotherhood and good fellowship among its members.

During World War II, the club furnished free Sunday spaghetti dinners and dancing for soldiers. They were also very engaged in charitable programs for fund raising purposes to benefit such organizations as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and the Veterans’ Organizations.

The club has changed its clubhouse location over the course of the century. They left the grocery store location about five months after the club was chartered in 1918. They moved to their current North Madison Street location. The club had also purchased a frame house also on Madison Street. In 1930, they constructed the first part of what is now their modern spacious hall.

The first Verdi hall (banquet halls Rockford IL)was a structure 40 x 60 feet, but was remodeled in 1950 and a major addition was constructed as well.

The present building, which includes the 1930 structure, has a total of 16,200 square feet on two floors. Besides a lounge, the building features a large auditorium for private parties, modern kitchen facilities, a basement barroom, and outdoor recreational equipment.

The present building has lighted grounds overlooking the Rock River and has playground equipment for children, picnic tables, an outdoor summer pavilion, basketball courts, and boat docks.

The 90 year old Verdi Club Society has upheld the high standards set forth by their founding members to this day. Besides being a sponsor for local events such as the Festa Italiana held each year at Boylan High School, the club board committee continually keeps current members active with club picnics, golf playdays, steak dinners, bond dinners, and formal dances. It is one of the elite social clubs in Rockford today and will be for many generations in the future.

The Best Home Theater System

If you are hanging on to your old analog television set, you really don’t know what you’re missing…

For the longest time I thought I could keep my Sony Trinitron when everything converted to digital. My old analog revision set had no signs of quitting and I had a cable subscription so it wasn’t a problem when stations switch over to the digital system.

But my television started to act strange. It was flipping through stations automatically and wouldn’t stop. I could live without a television for maybe a few days, but when you have three kids then you may go crazy without one.

So I had to purchase a new set and they are now all HDTV. I can’t believe the improvement in picture quality. With stations that are HD, the picture is clear and crisper than my older analog television set. I have to admit, I didn’t think much about my purchase. If I was a better shopper, I would read best home theater system guidelines or tips before I made my purchase. But I was already set on getting it at my favorite discounter and trusted they carried reliable brands.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the HDTV I had purchased, but if I wasn’t in a hurry to get a new television, I would first learn more about HDTVs by looking at the four basic components of the best home theater system.

Although the prices of these new television sets had come down dramatically and are equal to what prices were for the old analog television sets, it’s still a lot of money and having done your research to find the best home theater system helps make sure you get what you paid for.
